Testing Frequently Asked Questions

Troy University has approved several proctor options for you to choose from. Please see our Proctor Options page with detailed descriptions of each approved proctor option. This will help you understand the different types of proctors available and which choice is best for you.
Please view the Proctor Options page to determine which proctor options are available for your course. If you are unable to use ProctorU, you will need to search your area for a third-party testing center.
You will only have one proctored event in your course. Your instructor will decide which quiz or test will be proctored and let you know at the beginning of the term.
If you choose "testing center" as your option, you will be asked for your proctor's name, email, phone number, and location. The other options do not require you to enter any additional information.
As soon as possible (the form is always available beginning the second week of the term after the add/drop period ends). If you choose a testing facility, your proctor will not receive your exam information until your form is processed by TROY Online. This means you cannot schedule an exam with your proctor until your form is submitted and approved. Proctoring locations book up quickly during peak times. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO MAKE PROCTORING ARRANGEMENTS.
Please allow at least 24 hours and possibly as long as 72 hours during peak times.
A confirmation email will be sent to your email account. If your proctor is denied, you will receive an email from TROY Online explaining why your proctor doesn't meet the requirements. At that point, you will be asked to find a new proctor and resubmit your form.
Just resubmit a new form with the correct information. The new form will replace the form you previously submitted.
A webcam with a microphone is required if you choose ProctorU as your proctoring option. You can purchase a webcam from any retail store, use one already built into your computer, or use an external webcam you already own.
Your exam information is automatically emailed to your proctor by TROY Online as soon as your proctor form is approved. When your proctor form is approved, you will get a confirmation email stating that the exam information has been sent to your proctor.
We are glad to make arrangements for military students in special situations. If none of the usual proctor options are available to you, we will allow you to use a commissioned officer with a rank of O-3 or higher, enlisted personnel with a rank of E-7 or higher, or a warrant officer with a rank of WO-2 or higher to act as your proctor. The proctor should not be equal to or less than your pay grade or rank. Please email TROY Online staff with the details of your situation (Contact Us).

TROY Online is committed to providing high-quality distance learning programs for its students. Proctored exams maintain academic integrity and ensure fairness. In addition to preventing dishonesty in exam-taking, a proctored exam is a good way to verify that the student is the one doing the course work--something the federal government requires distance learning programs like TROY Online to demonstrate.
