Transfer Credit from Foreign Colleges/Universities
Students seeking transfer credits from a foreign university must request an official credit evaluation from the Troy University Academic Evaluation Center through the online request form located at https://forms.troy.edu/forms/academic/index.html. Please be informed that this request will not be processed until the official transcript(s) to be reviewed along with official translated course description(s) have been received by Troy University OR an official AACRAO or ECE evaluation has been received by TROY.
Students may pursue one of the following two methods for an official International Credit Evaluation: (Evaluation options can depend on the student's home location and/or immigration status.)
- The student who holds an F/J visa AND is attending one of Troy University's campuses located in Alabama will be required to present to the Troy University International Admissions Office original transcripts including an English translation and university prepared course descriptions for courses the student desires to transfer. Using established University protocols, the International Admissions Office will authenticate all submitted documents. Once authenticated, the International Admissions Office will instruct the student to submit the online request form for academic evaluation. By this online request, the Coordinator of International Transcript Evaluation with the Academic Evaluation Center (AEC) will determine if the foreign institution is considered equivalent to a U.S. regionally accredited college/university, and when appropriate, the AEC coordinator will translate the credit value of the course(s) being petitioned for transfer into U.S. equivalents. Once credit values, grade values, and suggested equivalents are determined by the coordinator, the credit reviews will be sent to the appropriate department chairperson for review. If approved, these transfer credits will be posted as their approved TROY equivalent course. If denied, these transfer credits will be posted as free elective credit.
- The student who is not attending TROY on a F/J visa, but who has international credits they wish to have evaluated (i.e. non-partner Global campus / military affiliated students, or students holding other visa types), must request an official international credentials evaluation from AACRAO or ECE. For any AACRAO and/or ECE transfer evaluation requested, TROY recommends the “course by course evaluation” option for the AACRAO agency and the “catalog match evaluation” option for the ECE agency. The official evaluation obtained from AACRAO or ECE, must be presented to the appropriate Admissions office, depending on the student’s home campus. Once received, the student should submit the online request form for academic evaluation located at https://forms.troy.edu/forms/academic/index.html. Upon request, the Coordinator of International Transcript Evaluation within the AEC will post the credit as evaluated by the outside agency. Additional departmental review through the University course substitution process is commonly needed in these cases if recommended course equivalent titles are vague and adequate course content cannot be determined from the credit recommendation alone. If additional departmental review is indeed required at TROY, the student will also be required to submit to TROY original transcripts including an English translation and university prepared course descriptions for courses the student desires to transfer.
SPECIAL NOTE: The student who has attended an overseas partner university whose degree courses include specific courses from the designated partner institution as well as specific courses from TROY will not need to request an evaluation of the academic credits from the partner institution. These academic credits will be processed by personnel responsible for the administration of those partnership programs. For any questions regarding students in this category, please contact Ms. Judy Strickland, International Site Coordinator.
SPECIAL NOTE: The student who has attended an international university, whose attendance at the international institution was coordinated and monitored through TROY Abroad program, should contact the Director of TROY Abroad, Center for International Programs, for information regarding the process of transferring those international credits to TROY once the approved study abroad is completed. Detailed information regarding the guidelines for study abroad transfer credit as well as the approval form for course equivalencies may be found at http://trojan.troy.edu/internationalprograms/troyabroad/forms.html
