Faculty Development

The Online Learning Consortium (OLC) provides access to high quality online education to individuals, institutions, professional societies and the corporate community. Originally funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, OLC is now a non-profit, member-sustained organization. OLC offers online teaching certificates, mastery series programs focused on online, blended, and mobile learning, plus workshops, webinars, publications, conferences and other professional resources for the online instructor, designer, developer, and administrator.

Troy University is now an Online Learning Consortium Institutional Member. With this membership, individuals affiliated with Troy University gain access and discounts to resources dedicated to quality online learning.

  • Teaching Certificates: OLC currently offers two teaching certificates; one ideally suited to those new to online learning or have taught online a year or less and another geared towards the more advanced educator with three or more years of online experience.
  • Sloan-C Mastery Series: This program emphasizes theory and application of research on key topics and culminates in a Recognition of Mastery in a topic. Each series consists of three workshops that help you explore relevant research and use that research to help you design an effective teaching and learning environment. The seven Mastery Series include Blended Learning, Leadership in Online Learning, Mobile Learning, Online Nursing, Online Science Labs, Social Media for Online Education, and Spatial Thinking & Web Mapping.

Account Set-Up /Log-in Instructions

Every person at the institution is considered a member, but each needs their own OLC account log-in and password. It is important that anyone interested in OLC resources sets up an account and affiliates themselves with the organization.

The information requested will give you a presence in the OLC community and help you find and get to know like-minded people. Besides your bio and areas of interest, you will also be able to provide a secondary e-mail as well as update mailing preferences.

Please note that if you set up an account and do not affiliate yourself or have an existing account that’s not affiliated, the system will NOT recognize you as a member.

I do not have a user account. How do I create an account affiliated with my institution?

  1. Click here to create a free user account.
  2. Once you complete your registration, you will be sent an e-mail and asked to verify your account.
  3. Once logged in, click on your username in the upper right hand corner of the home page. You will be brought to your “My Account” page. Click on “Edit Profile” to affiliate your account. Please enter your name and organization in the spaces provided.
    Note:
    Please make sure the organization name you type in matches the one listed on the membership list -Troy University.
  4. The system will now recognize you as a member, and you can go to the member resources page for details on your membership benefits such as free webinars and access to the JALN.

I already have a user account. How do I make sure I am affiliated with my institution?

  1. Please log-in to http://onlinelearningconsortium.org/.
  2. Once logged in, click on your username in the upper right hand corner of the home page. You will be brought to your “My Account” page. Click on “Edit Profile” to affiliate your account.
  3. In the space provided, add your organization name.
    Note: Please make sure the organization name you type in matches the one listed on the membership list -Troy University.
  4. The system will now recognize you as a member, and you can go to the member resources page for details on your membership benefits such as free webinars and access to the JALN.

Workshop Discounts and Free Webinars - If you log in with an affiliated account, the site will automatically show you the $100 discounted member price for workshops and $0.00 for webinars.

Conference Discounts - If you log in with an affiliated account, the discount code will be found on the left hand of the conference registration page in a gray box. Please note that there is a different discount code for each conference and you will need to go to a particular conference’s registration page to see the valid code. See picture below:
