Purpose - University Research Council

The Research Council serves as an advisory body to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs on matters related to the research mission of the University.

This standing committee will provide leadership in increasing awareness of the University’s research mission, and assist in the coordination and assessment of research outcomes. The Research Council will prepare the annual University Research Outcomes Assessment Report for the Chancellor.

Responsibilities of University Research Council

  1. Advise the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs on matters related to research

  2. Increase awareness of the University’s research mission
    • Generate ideas to support research activities on campuses.
    • Provide and enhance opportunities for professional development of faculty and student training related to research through coordination of activities with Sponsored Programs, the Institutional Review Board, the Faculty Development Committee, and academic leadership.
    • Facilitate University sponsored venues for faculty and student publications, presentations, and exhibits of scholarly activities (e.g. Web-hosting of a research calendar of upcoming research activities to include seminars, forums, brown-bag sessions, poster sessions, colloquiums, and symposiums.)
    • Develop and maintain a research website designed to elevate the knowledge, skills and abilities of interested faculty and students. The Webpage may include areas related to: potential funding sources, policies and procedures related to the conduct of research, Thesis Guidelines, Research Forum (showcase of current research activities and achievements of faculty and students at the University), access to forms required for the conduct of research, a consolidated calendar of available workshops and research training opportunities, and links to research related resources.

  3. Assist in the coordination of the reporting, assessment and planning of research outcomes
    • Capture the reporting elements of the Annual Research Outcomes Assessment process
    • Integrate outcome data into campus and college reporting formats for individual unit analysis and planning
    • Prepare the annual University Research Outcomes Assessment Report for the Chancellor’s Briefings
    • Offer suggestions and potential strategies to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for improving University research outcomes and assessment

Eligibility Criteria - University Research Council

Representatives must be full-time tenure-track faculty with a minimum of three consecutive years of full-time service as a Troy University faculty member. Exceptions to these criteria may be made with the concurrence of the Dean of the College and the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
