Why are some work order requests sent back as projects that my department must pay for?

The resources provided to the Physical Plant are allocated for the maintaining of buildings in their current condition. Any additions, improvements, or modifications that alter the existing space are considered projects and are not funded by the maintenance department. Depending on current demands, the Physical Plant sometimes has the ability to provide labor for projects; however, material costs are charged back to the requesting department.

Why does it take so long for projects to be completed?

In general, projects are completed in the order in which they are approved. There are times when projects will receive higher priority based on campus needs. During certain times of the year when the project demand is greater, it may require more time to complete projects. If your project request has a specific deadline please contact the project manager to discuss how the work can be expedited. We encourage all requestors to plan as far ahead as possible so that requests do not become “emergencies” that could have been prevented.
