The Department of English plays a vital role in Troy University’s General Studies program by offering students a focused and detailed study of English literature, language, and composition and rhetoric as well as studies in theater, communications, and journalism.
The English major with a teaching emphasis at Troy University – Dothan offers students a balanced approach to English literature, language, and composition and rhetoric. The English Language Arts program provides additional training in journalism, speech, and theatre, thereby equipping future teachers with a broad range of specialized study.
Graduates of any of the English Department's programs will be prepared for graduate-level study or for entering the teaching profession. The Bachelor of Science program, furthermore, provides students with an appropriate background for work in additional areas such as law, theology, philosophy, medicine (with science and mathematics preparation), library science, communications, and media.
