3: Books as Information Sources:
Section 2 of 6, THE LIBRARY CATALOG, page 5 of 5.
THE LIBRARY CATALOG
Let's do just one more search, then we'll find out how to get our hands on the books themselves.
This time, Power Search!
The Power Search link/option is front and center on the Online Catalog page.
Power Search offers many options. We will tell the catalog we want the author Thomas Hardy and the title Far From the Madding Crowd. The catalog does not care about capitalization, so it's better just to leave things lower case. It isn't necessary to search by the author's last name, first, but it's good practice.
Tip: If you run into trouble (unexpected results, for example), check your spelling and try again. If you still need help, Ask A Librarian.
Here is the advanced search screen.
The search finds 6 items, the first of which is this one.
If we wanted more details on the book, we could just hit the details link.
Tip: Use the Keep button to collect a list of items that interest you. To view the list, click the Kept link on the right side of the blue bar. Pretty clever!
